Doing No Further Harm: trauma informed working with survivors of abuse

An engaging programme for support workers, mental health practitioners, and anyone interested in developing trauma informed working with survivors of abuse. This training can support the development of a ‘psychologically informed environment’ [PIE] in support services for vulnerable people.

Learners will be able to:

  • Name some realities and myths about mental health and domestic and sexual abuse
  • Describe some impacts of abuse on mental health, how people may present and be diagnosed, and barriers to seeking help
  • Describe how the human brain responds to trauma and abuse
  • Describe some of the foundations of trauma informed working, and tools to help someone manage their distress and regulate their emotions
  • Describe support available locally and nationally, and pathways to specialist services
  • Recognise potential impacts of working with people affected by abuse and trauma, and strategies for self-care
