The @BACP, of which Vida is an accredited member, have supported a joint letter urging the Government to guarantee access to therapy for all survivors of child sexual abuse, following the Home Secretary’s announcement to implement three of the recommendations from the 2022 Jay Report independent public inquiry.
The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse Changemakers (IICSA), is a coalition made up of 65 major charities, community leaders and abuse survivors.
The letter expresses ‘significant concerns’ about the lack of focus and action on what survivors really want – namely specialist mental health support services for those affected and senior Government level representation.
Vida’s Clinical Lead, Jane McClaren says “Much of the essential recovery work with survivors of domestic and sexual abuse is provided by the third sector, which is under resourced and oversubscribed. Closing a vital service such as Vida Sheffield, will only increase the demand on the NHS.
This situation leaves survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, who are already disadvantaged and disproportionately affected, without accessible support.”
