Volunteer Buddies for Eva Peer Support Group

Vida are seeking some new volunteer buddies to help support our women’s Peer Support Group.

The Peer Support Group meets fortnightly, in term time, on a Monday morning 10am – 12noon [you would need to be there from 9.30am until 12.30pm]

The venue is a light and airy dance studio in the town centre, where Vida have tables and chairs stored, to set up for small groups to sit round doing craft activities. The crafts are planned and run by our crafts facilitator, and we usually have a ‘stretch & tone’ activity during the session with anyone who feels able to join in.

There is also a separate small room where one of our therapists provides short slots of 1-1 emotional support to women who request it.

Skills/qualities we are looking for in a Volunteer Buddy

  • Confidence in greeting new women attending the group
  • Good communication skills
  • Approachable and friendly
  • Good understanding of the group and its benefits to women
  • Good understanding of issues affecting women who have experienced domestic abuse

Tasks

  • Welcome new women to the group
  • Take name and ensure they sign in
  • Make a drink and sit with them a while
  • Explain the group and what is available
  • Let them know a confidential space is available to speak with a worker if needed, and explain availability of the brief support sessions
  • Set up the room, and clear up at the end of group
